Happy Birthday Royal Marines, where ever you are serving.

Pompey band hosted the Portsmouth area celebrations on Thursday and I'm sure that the occassion has been marked in all the other units of the Corps. Pompey band had port and cake for all who wear the Globe and Laurel and a curry in the bar after the ceremony. The youngest Marine (A female Musn from RMSoM) said the birth of the Corps citation from memory without any slip ups and the bulgers sounded a fanfare.

Just in case you have forgotten how long the citation is here it is:
The Birth of the Corps - 28 October 1664

King Charles II sanctioned the formation of the Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot - the first Regiment to be formed specially for service afloat. The Regiment was raised mainly from the Trained Bands of the City of London from which the RM derive the privilege of marching through the City of London with Colours flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed. The yellow stripe in our present-day Regimental flash commemorates the yellow uniforms of the Duke of York and Albany's Regiment.

Happy Bert Day fellow Corps Shapers!!

Sporting the Number one Bert all weekend to celebrate the occasion!

I have to confess that I was spotted by the Town Sgt minus my Bert in Deal High street the other day! He gestured to me from his vehicle enquiring as to the whareabouts of said ferret but before I had the chance to explain to him that it was rolled up in me map pocket, he sped off no doubt to report my infraction to the forum elders!! I thought it better to come clean before he had the chance to dobb me in!!

I did have a laminated "Excused Berts Chit" in me top left hand pocket though.

I will take any punishment due, as long as it doesn't involve Snorkers or Night Nurse!
