I wonder what all the old 1st drills would think if they saw that!!
I do miss Deal... good and bad memories but more good than bad

Main Galley now flattened and awaiting new houses to be built.

The only part of North Barracks that looks bad, is the plot that surrounds the Memorial Garden.

I'll take some photos and post in a couple of days when the 'Force 10 Hooligan' has calmed down!

Running round that God Forsaken Hallowed Ground with your matress on yer back falls into the "bad" department Deli..Could be a bit treacherous now methinks..

The Galley was full of good and bad memories as well of course... the cheesy-hammy-eggy-bacon pie was both good and bad. Sometimes you had time to eat it all and others you shoved a few bits in your mouth before running off to extra PT or drill; you decide which one was good and which was bad wahhhhhhhhhh!
Whenever there was a food inspection thing going on we were always amazed at how good the food was for a couple of days, it never lasted long before it was back to the normal stuff. The chefs did a brilliant job of feeding us with what they had and the NAAFI did the other 'homely' foods for us. Bless Moira and Heather for their Cheese Beanos!

Absolutely terrible! we 'broke in' on our last re onion in Deal and its quite upsetting to see the place being ripped apart - the new housing isn't even nice!!!! Sgt hewling will be spinning in his corps crested grave (Tho I think he's still alive, but nothing should spoil a good metaphor!)

Now you're gonna get Mr Jumpig started!!!!

I've given my view on ALL RM food in a much earlier thread. (There it is again in a nutshell, he wrote - clearing the vomit off his opening bracket and capital T)

One of my earliest memories of the galley was having to stand on the road outside of it in full rough serge lovats for the Wednesday Depot Parade as a very young and inexperienced Junior Musician, with the rest of my 42 strong intake. (Remember 2nd Clarinet?)

We hadn't been there too long when one of our number decided to go to the dentist...

...he decided on the spur of the moment that he didn't like the look of his front two teeth - and it being long before the age of routinely being fitted with braces, his preferred method of re-arrangement was to plummet forward with grace and aplomb and let the kerbstone (conveniently placed for his height) remove the aforementioned tombstones.

Luckily for him, he decided to fall asleep on the way down as a primitive (but effective) form of pain relief.

When he awoke the 2 teeth were no more - and we all had an example of how not to stand on parade, i.e. horizontally. (He did remain at attention all the way down and that got him a remarkably good score for one so young and inexperienced in these things.)

Some of you will know who I'm talking about here and Billy, if you think back to Taff Gibbons' front two teeth, you may remember they were pussers falsies.

And with that posting, I'm now a Drum Major! (No comment!)

..Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. Goofy.??? Methinks not..

The consolation at the galley..(and now I'M repeating myself) was the oldest paper boy in the World, wearing the oldest leather hat in the World, tempting those who were of that persuasion to purchase Bert Foggle's..?? cleaning duties for the forthcoming days...

Isn't it great to be talking proper RMB stuff again..????
