Congratulations to all 8 plus a short 1 - me thinks there is a tuba/euph sticking out of the bass drummers head.
ZedHorn

yep.. well spotted Gromit.. you stores bashers were always good at counting.. Deli, remedial maths classes.. pint for me, one for you, one for Gromit.. that's 3!
admin

No, it is 8! I have shown the photo to Adge (who is stood next to me and thanks you all for your kind comments). The Tuba belongs to the conductor who conducted with one hand and fiddled with his valves with the other (Ohhh errr Matron)
townsergeant

Their 1812 Finale was brill!

Not the twelve minutes past six Bill... They did the Music from the Royal Fireworks... no fireworks and not too much music. It was more like the Music from the Royal Sparkler (small one) in the Garden just after it got dark. Adge had to go with what he could with what he had and he lost 20% of his concert band (one person) 2 days before the competiton. I'll give Adge one thing... you can't get him down! He really does have Rubber duck syndrome and always bounces back!!

No, not that Tuba, the one sticking out above Adge's left hand.

I think the bass drummer is carrying a midget on baritone in a rucksack -look at the shadows, there's only 8 (spooky)
Hornblower

ooooh good point Alick!!!

I'm gettin' a bit scared now - just as I was coming to terms with the fact that there are 9 players there....

*shiver*
Anne Picc

Unless someone has placed a baritone holding bollard in the back rank on the left of the photo (it looks like a hat to me), I still make it 9 - drum major, Adge, 2 side drummers, base drum, two bones, a cornet and a baritone (midget, held by base drummer, hallucination or whatever)! But Adge will know and if he says 8 then 8 it was - spooky indeed! Maybe the photographer was pi$$ed and his camera was seeing double. Maybe we could get a tv production team interested - Most Haunted Bands. Confusing indeed. Hadn't realised a 'well done guys' post would great so much debate!

Once you've got your feet well and truly under the table on here you'll realise that anything is possible and there are tangents a plenty.

Nah, but I was a lot later! I'll have a look if I took a phot at a different angle and put this debate to bed.
greenfairy

How can there be a debate - I'd just take Adge's word for it seeing as how it's his band and all!
A

aha!
A

9 if you include the Drum Major, is that what everyone was doing?
ZedHorn

who gives a damn they were bloody great!

END OF DIT!
Hornblower

Dit resurrected...

I would prefer a satsuma (just to resurrect a previous thread)

Sorted out the rogue bell now - it really is a small person at the rear of the left file (as you look at the pic) and you can see their shadow too.

Alick, you're nowt but a scaremongerer.

(Had me real worried there for a while you did...)

OK Zed, you can kill it off now!

Go Zed, go Zed
The Donkey

I'm just impressed by the gaiters on the square riggers.

Seriously though, great show by Ark Royal and really what Volly Bands are all about. Made me proud........
joe90

Aha, closer inspection of the first piccy now reveals where he was hiding. I missed the shadow to the rear of the bass drummer. I'll have to stop watching Medium.

My apologies, the eyes aren't what they used to be - Stu, don't go there!!!

I had thought the thread was heading for the realms of "player on the grassy knoll" when it was intended as a BZ for going with what you've got...........and doing it with style. All goes to show that size is not everything, it's just that some fill the arena more than others.
Respect Adge
