Band Festival -Social NoteWas asked to contact the Bar at Nelson WOSR Mess as last year they didnt realise a large gathering of beer swilling, wine sipping (But not in Zed's case) and merryment making Volly Bandies would be darkening their doorstep.
I have duly done this and informed them of our visit. The Mess Manager sounded quite excited at the prospect of profits behind the bar on the Friday night, where I am sure only Tomato and Orange juice will be consumed in preparedness for the Festival, but on the mention of people attending on Saturday for pre party drinks, there was a sharp intake of breath. Apparently the bar is shut on the Saturday for a private wedding reception - Thought you should all know.
Right, best I go and start my Fancy Dress !

Just a quick note that Neptune Band will be down on Thursday night and will probably having a few swallies in the mess like last year with some Nelson members.
I cannot make it to the festival this year, so good luck to everyone and hope to see you all next year :-)

Well, I'm not nice, I'm not friendly and I'm not duty bar Friday! I am on standby in case it gets busy though and of course I will then be nice and freindly if I have to work. I'll let the Bar Manager know about Thursday and make sure that they have lots of Bells (not the ding dong type) and Grouse and Becks in for you who are fre the North ya ken Jimmy the noo.
There will, hopefully, be a bar open upstairs for the use of the people staying in the mess but they have to be in the bar at a reasonable time and not rock up at 10PM hoping the bar is going to stay open without any customers in there until that time. I have just spoken to the mess manager and there is only space for 10 people downstairs because of fire regulations, I have already warned the bar manager off (over 4 weeks ago) that there would be at least 20 people wanting a drink from 9PM onwards and more coming in before 10PM. How many people are interested in going back to the SR's Mess from 9PM? and how many can be sure they will be in the mess by 10PM... if the numbers are not sufficient, they will just close the bar... over to you.

I know certainly last year (having only attended then for the first time) that we went down on the Friday and there were a reasonably decent group of us (40?). John Caddle kept the bar open basically until we.. er, well..... wanted him to! Now what time that was...havent a darn clue!! I was off early in bed after one OJ and Lemonade (ish).
On the Saturday, he was willing to open it early so people could come back, get changed and have a few reasonably decent priced drinks before heading down to the venue.

please also top up on Morgans spiced as I know a fair few who have a distinct liking to it!! 
as for numbers... the last few years ther has been a good 30-40 as you say, If I remember... I'm blonde, bare with me, the pipers have their AGM that night too.. so that's at least 15!

OK...........various points taken on board, will definitely be in the bar by 9 to ensure it doesn't close early.............
However, whilst young Pompey Rich has identified discounts in Pompey town for pre party drinks............bearing in mind that we will be in fancy dress............is there anywhere else in Nelson we could get pre party drinks??? I mean is it fair to expose Pompey to the Vollie Band fancy dress code??

My Room??Could be a tight squeeze, the portable bar and optics might not fit in my bag and we certainly cant get the barrels of beer and morgan spice bottles, in the quantity needed, in the van!!!!

I heard from young Watson re Friday and think they are now coming to Nelson ( they're out at HMS Excellent ). last year on the Sat we did end up back at the bar but it wan't before 10 but and I'd say there was no more than 15 of us. I'd say most people would be happy to play it by ear, if we can't go back then those who want to can head into town or like me have an early night!!!!
There's a lot of people not staying on nelson so a lot of them would probably head back after the party.
