Just found this on the internet.
Low-cost German airline Germanwings is offering fantastically cheap flights to Cologne for just £26 return, including all taxes.

Flights depart from Stansted or Edinburgh, with good availability from October onwards and even the odd date in August and September.

Also available for early next year (Jan/Feb)

Good for visiting old friends and visiting the market just before christmas

To get the £26 return fare, you need to select an outbound fare of 0.01 and an inbound fare of 1.02

I fully recommend the Christmas markets in Cologne. Lovely atmosphere, good food and gluhwein! Also the ladies can spend a fortune on glittery things to hang on your Christmas tree!
If you want, you could also time your visit to coincide with the Domstädter Christmas concert. They are held in the music college on Dagobertstrasse (very easy to find and just a short walk from the railway station). This year they are on Saturday 20th December at 19:30 and Sunday 21st at 16:00. If you go to the Sunday one you may also find yourself invited to their post-concert p..s-up in the pub afterwards!
