Mark and Team,

Next year my aunt and uncle are celebrating their 60th birthday's joint I was wandering whether you could tell me the cost of a group of marines who would be happy to travel to Bristol to play for a dance what would that be a jazz / big band quartet??

Would you suggest writing to the west country bands in turn and asking them for any ideas or can you think if of anything
maybe ex marines might do due to the cost??

Would TRANSPORT and FOOD need to be provided?

Tom Brigstocke
Aaron Aardvark

errrrr.........WOULD!!!!!
RAB

Hey Briggers....

If you can't get a mixed group together, I'll organise a bass quartet for you...

ANDY

CHALKY

Baaaaaaaaaaas

Yours truly......

Transport not a problem, as we're just up the road in Jockland, and we'd just nick an Admirality car...

Food and drink..????? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...

Some Pusser's curled up sandwiches, and a few barrels of Guiness would be fine before we rig up, then we'll have a proper drink during and after the gig..

I'll arrange a piece (not a pun) especially for the party...

I'll call it 160 Fathoms......

What time do you want us there..????
briggers

HI ANDY,

TOM HERE

(A) Where is Jockland? (B) What does 160 fathoms mean £160 to include transport and food??

ARE YOU A CURRENT BANDSMEN or EX how many guys could you get together for a party do you know BRISTOL well? not to many musicians though as the area where the party is will have about 100 people so you will have to play quite loud but some of them are going death so maybe that is a good thing!!!!!! Could you provide big band / dance band numbers for the dance

HI TOM

ANDY HERE

I would love to be part of your TUBAFEST extravaganza. Will Clancy be there?

Jockland is the big bit above Englandshire. A fathom is a measurement of depth normally used at sea by people who float boats and things. Quite handy to know if you are in a submarine.

Have you any Naval connections yourself?

Good luck in your quest

..I thought I was ANDY..????

Actually TOM, I'm RAB (Scottish for pain in the butt)..

A fathom is 6ft in old money, and there's a famous Tuba solo called 40 Fathoms. As we're a quartet, I thought I would rearrange the piece for the five of us.

I used to have a Naval connection, but they cut my umbilical chord at birth...

I have to warn you that RMB Musicians don't come cheap, and highly experienced Ex-Members like us are even more expensive.

As far as accomodation is concerned, we would be quite prepared to 'rough it' in one of the Bristol Hiltons, unless there is a Service Camp nearby with a suitable Officers' Mess.

I would love to come down and do the party, as I really do like a bit of Bristol, as Aaron says...

Hi Tom,
You would be best off contacting a band that is local to the area rather then pay for the costs for the Tubafest gang to come down from Scotishland. I would suggest CTC, Dartmouth or Plymouth bands or possibly one of the local volunteer bands. The RM bands will be able to provide any combination but as it is a private function you'd need to discuss what you require with the Band Operations Co-ordinator (Band Secretary in old money). The contact details are at the bottom of this page (Contact us).
I would have to say that the Tubafest gang might be expensive and have more 'diva demands' than Madonna in a strop. They make INXS look like a bunch of well behaved public schoolboys and would probaly write off Bristol as well as the hotel!
RAB

..Now isn't that just typical..

Every time 'Scotland Band' get offered a decent Cat4, the former 'Yottie's' try to steal it from them....

I'm sure Chalky would be a great ambastardor for Fife, Andy would bring his own tackle and fish quietly in the Bristol fountain to nobody's annoyance. Baaaaaaaaaaas would entertain the crowds with balancing tricks on his double bass, and I of course would be selling The Big Issue in me cerries and wellies, outside the local shopping centre...

Now be honest Deli..Could you see The Royal Band carrying out such a gig..???
Aaron Aardvark

If you want to make it a CAT V then im sure you will be stuck for choice Tom

HMS Heron is the nearest Volunteer band to Bristol as it's an hour south - Ilchester (Yeovilton). We don't have a big band as such but we do have ex RM Band Service mates who run Berties Big Band, which is also based in Somerset.
briggers

Thank you very much what type of music does the HMS HERON VOLUNTEER BAND PROVIDE??

BERTIES BIG BAND who are the members of this and how many are their do they have a website so I can contact them for a quote

Would they need transport and food provided

Are you the VBI at HERON Dave Wright?! I know you were at BRNC perhaps in our day TOM BRIGSTOCKE!
