fof3, does any one admit to being there?

FOF3

Hi Jock
yes I was in FOF3 band as the B/M when that band was first formed at Deal. We flew out to Gib to join Hermes in early January 1978. Lokking at your photo I wonder whether I can see a solo cornet player named Jenkins in the background. He was with me in that band but I left to return to Deal before most of the rest of the band. Who was your B/M?
A number of EX FOF3 have often suggested trying to get a small reunion going. It sounds a good idea but it won't be easy to put together.
Any thaughts?

fof3

its a photo from the last fof3 band. yip that is taff jenkins, ben robinson was our band master, as for a fof3 reunion, im sure there are enough ex members on line who could spread the word.

I was in the band but was sent back to Dartmouth just before the last trip to the Med....wot a bummer!!

There were two Jenkins (both pictured below) in the Band for the last year of FOF III, both cornet players...Roy (Taff) Jenkins (on the right) who you mentioned, ....but the solo cornet was Gordon (Grod) Jenkins (left). He missed a gig in Sydney and was awarded a weeks stoppage of leave....That's what I call a real bummer!!!!

fof3 simply the best?

Aaron Aardvark

OOOOH I JUST HAD A FUNNY FLASH-BACK

oops sorry caps-lock......Does anyone remember the FOF3 Boogie???
The one where you had to dance at half the tempo of the music.

I know Chalky did a mean boogie in his dungarees and I personally witnessed Ffoggy doing one once........Wymer tried but fell over. Andy Hill was a perfectissimo at it and I of course taught them all how to do it in the first place. We even ....no i wont go there.
The FOF3 Boogie was revived and perfected at Northolt.
FFoglamp

We, (that is the whole of FOF3 band), did the FOF 3 boogie at our Xmas bash at the Home Club - Dec 1985. We would always request it, insist on it, get it played and dance to........... STINGRAY !!!!

This involves a sort of twist, but arms and legs have to be totally un-synchronised and move at vastly different rates to the rhythm, e.g very very unfeasibly fast punchy arm movements one minute, followed by sloooooooow moooooooooootion action replay next, (but without the action). Andy Hill was rather good at it. Most were average, and Keith Pacy struggled a bit.

Stingraaaaaay, Stingray, da da da da, da da (repeat)

Was it a special requirement to play your hooter the wrong way round in this band ????

It would be Rab. Can you identify any more. Trumpet player looks familiar!!! (Well he would do if he was holding the thing) Front row third from right...

The bar..

This was the bar on RFA Fort Grange. When we joined the ship our duties were to run the bar. Bandies and bars!!
