Hi Clancy!

I'll leave it for the volly dollies to tell you exactly what they are!!!

Hope you enjoy yourself on the forum - tell us a bit about yourself...
Clancy

Oh what is a volly dollie?.....I am looking to rejoin a band.....i have recently moved into the portsmouth area from Manchester..i have seen the marines so many time sin the Free Trade Hall...always brills....I am 26 and divorced..came south with new job and life looking for new friends...no kids......someone told me that the Marines band was here..I thought they were in a place in Kent cannot remember the name...and the band that i saw in Manchester came from Scotland....not just come for marines you understand.....I am half indian and love partying...this is my pic. can we post pics.....? Thanks for all your kindness....so is there any chance of playing with a band here in the area.
Dan A

Hi Clancy.....nice pic...how long you been playing the cornet..? As no one seems to be behaving i will tell you...Vollie dollies are Volunteer bands that are run by the marines but are made up from Navy personnel in Naval barracks or establishments as the navy call them....

They are part time bands and appear to have civilian muscians in them too...I think...best place to go for advice would be one of the bands listed under the Voulunteer bands section....there a a couple in the Portsmouth area.

I am sure someone will show you the way forward if you really interested in taking up music again....

Hello! I'm a Portsmouth Vollie Dolly.

The beands in this area are Nelson ( Portsmouth...down by Gunwharf) Collingwood (Fareham) and Sultan (Gosport.)

All the bands are constantly looking for new members, and the bands are unauditioned. The bands are open to naval personnel, their families, civil servants, and to pretty much anyone else who wants to play.

If you want to contact the bandmasters for more info, you can find their numbers here:

If you are Portsmouth side
Tel: 023 9272 4187 (HMS Nelson)

If you are Gosport side
Tel: 023 9254 2088 (HMS Sultan)

They are a freindly bunch so give them a call and you'll be marching up and down before you can say 'Quick March'
Clancy

No... all supplied (including uniform) but you can use your own instruments if you choose to.
Admin or Deli... they are both us and we are one sharing the same body
Ignore him^^^, he's mad
Sorry, that was the other of us
ZedHorn

steady Deli... the poor girl will be confused and tink we're all mad!!
Welcome Clancy.. another Volly Dolly here altho' I'm no longer Portsmouth based. You'll have fun at Nelson or at Collingwood or anywhere you go if you have the right attitude of having fun and making music in distinctly non equal quantities!!
Get in there quick, you might even make it to the festival (big competition..no, no, it's just for fun really!!)... only 6 weeks to go, or is it 5... yikes!
The Donkey

Welcome Clancy.

As Deli didn't give it, here is the number for Collingwood Band too:

01329 332553

I suppose he didn't want to to acussed of bias as we are already the Champion Band of the RN..................
RAB

Hello Clancy. Welcome to the site. I hope you manage to get back in the musical groove and find a suitable band....

Seems to be plenty to choose from in the Pompey area...

Hi Clancy and welcome. I'm a Volly Dolly from HMS Heron in Somerset (boys are called Volly Balls - apparantly). If all elese fails get to the Guild Hall in Portsmouth (opposite HMS Nelson, through the park) on the 14th July and meet all the volly's as we do our annual band festival.

I don't have an avatar yet as I am new to the site so I need a nice admin person to help me out at some point, pweeese.
ANTS

Clancy...I don't know what standard you're at on the cornet, but I'm sure the Hampshire Constabulary have their own band. My old mate Len Lewry (LEN) on this site was in charge of it. I'm sure he would be happy to guide you in the right direction. Last time I spoke to him he was looking for new players....
Errol

There's a name from the past Rab.
Len Lewry and I joined up together.
RAB

Len and I had a 'Vino Rouge' afternoon in The Gunwharf two reunions ago, and covered the past 30yrs in about 4 hours. He's been offline for some time, but is now back on, and I'm sure we'll hear from him shortly..

(sorry mate..didn't mean to call you shortly)..
