Hi all!Hi,
I am Rachael and I hope to join the Royal Marine Band in a couple of yrs time, on completion of my A levels.
I currently play flute, piccolo and tenor sax. I am also learning the cornet....not going to well at the moment though.
(doing Dipabrsm on flute Dec. 2007).
I would love to follow a career in music, so if I am unlucky in getting into the RMB, I would like to possibly play in a band for the west-end shows.
I would appreciate any good advice (tips for the fitness tests etc.).

It is what I really want. I did want to join when I finished school, but the prospect of leaving home so soon scared me a little.
Just a couple of qs:
Is it possible to take exams in the RM? (i.e. A levels etc.)
Is the music degree quite challenging; what does it involve?
thanx.

Yes... anything you want really!
The degree is the same as any degree, difficult for some, easy for others. Your whole career structure is now geared toward the degree. I think initial music training counts toward it in some respects.
Try looking here http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk/actionmusic/Index_recruiting.htm for the fitness etc... if you have any questions please ask away. It is better to ask and not need to know than to need to know and not ask

Good luck with your ambition Rachel.
I'm sure that a more challenging and rewarding career would be extremely difficult to find.
There are plenty of guys (and girls) using this forum who will be able to give you loads of good advice.
Good luck again

Hi Rachael and welcome.
Go for it and get your feet wet.
It has given many people a fulfilling career.
If it doe'st suit, you can always go back to civilian life, but you may regret
it, if you do not join the finest military band service in the world.
