Hi from The Royal British Legion Band Romford

Hi All

My names Sarah and I'm from The Royal British Legion Band Romford.

We had a few of our Drummers go to Portsmouth for a days tuition and they throughly enjoyed it.

We've also got a member of ours completing his training at the School of Music
Co-admin

Hi Sarah and
I'm sure the rest will say hello as well. We are a friendly bunch and none of us bite (many of the others don't have their own teeth!).
I'm sure you'll fit in and don't be a stranger

What instrument do you play?
Sarah Adams

I play the euphonium! Been on many instruments during my time in the band as I've been in it since I was 7 and Im now 25! Played clarinet, cornet, horn and Euph!

Just been looking at the posts and found my mate who joined in Sept: MusnShelton!!

Hi Sarah..Welcome aboard...I see your instruments have grown in size over the years..So I will wish you a presumtious welcome to the Bass Section....
Hornblower

Hey Sarah!

You've met all the bad boys (and girls) on the forum so that only leaves me, the only good guy to say hello.

Hello, enjoy your stay and stay a long time.
FFoglamp

Move over Hornblowee !!! Its only because I've been AWOL for a few days, that you consider yourself the ONLY good guy. Don't think so. Anyway a loony percussionist never did any forum any harm. especially here on French Horn CITY. Hi, Sarah !
Hornblower

Hornblowee?

The receiver of Hornblower?

Doesn't bear thinking about....

Hornblowered.

As in "Well, I'll be hornblowered"

Not a chance - I'm happily married.
Apricot

Right!! As you can see, I've played a few instruments in my time - but Im after a change!!

Going onto French horn and wondered if anyone had the basic scale they could send me, just to get me started!
MrJpig

Not another bleedin` hornist !!! Get hold of a Tuba!! it might seem like you are trying to cuddle a small factory at first but at least you don`t need a strap on...(unless you are marching of course) and you don`t end up with bad eyes and a bottom lip like a salmon!!

Spoiler:

ground bait distributed...sits and waits for bite
Sarah Adams

Yep Fraid so!

My husband plays the Tuba and its way to big for me!!
bootybandy

What you need Sarah Adams is a Saxamaphone. One of the coolest instruments you can play. Easy to carry, you can play it anywhere, Big Band, Marching Band, Concert Band and sometimes in an Orchestra. Give the Horn a wide berth and go for the Sax. You know it makes sense.
Hornblower

DO NOT under any circumstances listen to the Welsh writer above - on this subject or any other!!!!

He is a charlatan who used to hold an alto saxamathingy and we all know the sort of racket that thing makes in anybody's hands except Stan Getz.

You get stuck into your horn and enjoy it. (You will eventually!!)

PM me and I'll send you some stuff OK?

Stuey

(Before the above mentioned Welshman pops in again with a derogatory comment, the stuff will be French horn related... )
FFoglamp

Don't listen to any of these people above who are challenged by just holding a lump of twisted metal.

Go percussion, and then you can run around at the back of a concert, bashing things, making a noise, and be very silly for the rest of your life, and get paid for it too. So, there !
bootybandy

Don't listen to that last post. That man is plainly disturbed. He even supports the Scummers (Southampton). You can bash as many things as you want, but to get musical satisfaction, it has got to be the Saxamaphone Family. After all, there is thirteen of us to choose from. There is only one Francais Cor. and that needs you to stuff your hand in the bell to stop an unearthly noise from being exuded from it's intestines....Bleugh....
MusnShelton

French Horn is the way forward Sarah!
RAB

MusnShelton wrote:

..How strange...I thought it pointed back the way...

Surely the way forward is cornet, trombone etc...???

And of course the way UP is Tuba, Bombardon, Bass, call it what you like mate...
sticky blue

and on the way down is after a good sesh on the falling down juice

Hornblower

Woss that horn cadet doing in there?
bootybandy

Looks like Bob Scarratt super imposed into the Horn 'n Sax rank..........
geekygirl

Surely Bob Scarett is shorter than that?!
General Melchett

It's Dartmouth Band (from the Lord Mayor's?) and Musn "Cup of Tea"!

Hi Sarah
Were you in the band when that played at the Colchester Military Festival last July,
I was there playing with The Essex Yeomanry Band, what was your thoughts of the Gig.
Were are booked again for next year, be our 4th year there, If you know of any ex Legion band who want to play in a military band we have vacancys.
I have alaways been a great fan of the band and always watch you when you play in Romford. I joined the Royal Marine Band many years ago and as far as I can remember you have based your uniform on the RM Band.
Brian T RMB 3456
MusnShelton

Yes it was the Romford Legion band that did the Colchester Tattoo last July! I was in that show! So hot!

Wonder what the Aardvark will make of the spikey ball top.

Is it called a pointy top? Or spear top? Or sharp top?

You look v smart though, whatever the pointy thing is called.

You won't be able to hold your Horn like that (Percy Pongo'ish) in the RMB, young fellow m'lad!

You will hold it in your left hand down by the left trouser leg, until such times as you feel that your hand turns blue and is going detach from your wrist, especially at the Cenotaph!

You'll be wanting to be a bass holder next!!!

Have you been on parade with your horn yet? Do remember to use the strap when you do - Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yep, it was us - we got back to Romford in the early hours of the morning!

Still was a good show - playing Lord of the Dance with the Irish Dancers was really good!!

Chris is gonna be my teacher so when we play Lord of the Dance we can blast out the horn bit!

Not sure if any of you have heard of an organisation called TYMBA - but its the Nationals on Saturday and we're competing! Hoping to scoop the double ie win that competition and win the league - we've won all three we have competed in this year (even did a comp last month, the day after I got married!)

This is me, and my husband is just on the outside of the picture!

Hiya

Just thought I'd let you know that we swept the board at the TYMBA Nationals - so our band is now THE SUPREME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! We are waiting for it to be confirmed, but its believed that we are the only band in TYMBA's history to sweep the board in all the competitions we have taken part this season!

This was us before we started yesterday!!
