Astradyne

If you're using a laptop, hold down 'Fn' and 'Alt' together, then type MJ89:

½ ½ See - it works for me, and I know nuffin' about these computery things!

Or copy it from your character map.

я не знаю!
RAB

Thanks for that Astradyne..

But if I hold down alt and Fn...I've got no hands left to type anything...

See..?? I know even less than you about these cyber dhobi machines...
Mr Bass Trombone

Hi Will welcome to the house of fun , if you are lucky enough to aspire to the delights of the the RMB then I hope you are good at crashing and banging you could end up with a Big Drum around your neck, or a handful of plates that they call cymbals. But dont let that deter you Go Forth young man and go for it, by the way I am old enough to be your well old enough anyway if AA tells you he is 21 then I am only 40 but many will dispute that. Good luck in your quest young man and stay in touch with modern day Monty Pythons Circus, some are mad but most are really mad but it is fun.

If you're using a 'proper' keyboard it's ALT 171 (on the number pad NOT the numbers above the keys!)

If you're using a lap-dancer, sorry lap-TOP , you need to enable the number pad keys by whatever key combination (usually a Fn+NumLock or summat), then ALT 171 using the dummy number pad. ½ - see? Oh, and ALT 172 gives you ¼ - 3/4 seems to be conspicuous by it's absence. Hmmmm...has the Ardvark nicked it to add to his balltop collection?

For more information on this subject, guaranteed to cure insomnia , just Google for 'ascii codes' - soon you too can bore for Britain!
Aaron Aardvark

do you mean this one Pete? ¾ alt0190=¾

Im sure Will has learnt loads .........here you go Will......here's your thread back

Hi Will, I'm Mark and I'm nearly 48 years of age. In fact, spookily on the same day as Andy is 46. And, we're still 2 years apart, funny that.

[How do you do this ALT stuff, still can't do a 1/2 thingy ?]

Blimey, this takes me back a few years, trying to show Royals how to operate confusers, so listen up at the back there!

Hold down the ALT key and type the appropriate 3 or 4 digit code in ON THE NUMBER PAD - it will NOT work with the numbers along the top. To get the codes just Google 'ALT Codes' or 'ASCII codes' - I'm an old DOS keyboard thumper, so I grew up with the 3-digit codes, AA seems to prefer the Windoze 4-digit versions (got ¾ so it's an improvement). Either way, you can get lots of symbols not on yer keyboard.

Here endeth the thread hijack.

And to prove it:

Welcome Will , I am not and never have been a bandie, just civvie support staff for yonks, before getting out of the MOD. My lad (Kirriedave - trombone, cello, guitar, piano, keyboards, kazoo, comb & paper, G&T at the Bar) is also 16 and is going to be signing the papers before Christmas, hopefully aiming for interview/audition next May - who knows, you may end up in the same intake!

Go on son, you know it makes sense!

MrJpig

.........and can you get 1/.5 of a Yonk?
FFoglamp

.................and what's a number pad. I'm on a laptop that doesn't have one. I've got an ALT GR button ? wot dit do ?

FFoglamp wrote:

Yes you do - it's just that you don't normally use it. Look at the letter keys on the right of the keyboard (J K L and their neighbours) - see the numbers on them in a different colour? Well those keys are your number pad, to activate it you need to hit the NumLock key (it may need Fn+NumLock or summat similar - RTFM). The ALT GR button is an alternative ALT key - its precise function is lost in the mists of time - IBM claim it is an Alternate Graphic key for switching character sets - whatever, you can use it for accessing more characters like the Euro symbol etc, so they tell me anyway. Then again IKBA, but if you want to bore yourself to sleep try here

Can we stop hijacking poor little Wills' thread now?

Will, are you still sitting there reading this tripe? Get yer ar$e along to the Forces Careers Office on the double!

'Night all.
FFoglamp

Thanks Kirrie Pete. I looked down at my keyboard, and ......................... oh yeah ? Well I never. Learn more every day. Meanwhile, no sign of Will.

WILL ! WILL ! COME BACK !

RAB

..Oh Bugger..Missed Will.. I'm still looking at my keyboard...
