Solo Holidays

I may go on holiday before Christmas on my own, what do you think?

After all, Ed will be away on a tour of Germany with the Life Guards (lucky bugger) and I have the means now. I'm always harping on about travelling so if I was to go on a similar coach holiday like my August one, it would be cheap, easy, and tour guided so I would never get lost.

Speaking as someone who's just about to embark on a solo holiday (as I have no other half to worry about) I'd say if you want to do it then go for it. This is my 2nd time going away solo - first time abroad (cos contrary to what many say, Scotland isn't abroad! And neither is Ryde)
geekygirl

I have been on holiday on my own 3 times now, the first as work gave me the chance of a paid air ticket to Australia and said i could take some holiday whilst there if i wanted.... I've had a mixture of hosteling and organised trips and can thoroughly recommend the following if you were thinking of going abroad somewhere.

www.groovygrape.co.uk Australia - I went from Adelaide to Alice Springs and it was brilliant

www.greentortoise.co.uk Cheap and a good way to see a lot of the USA with a bunch of other people, I went from New York to San Francisco

www.intrepidtravel.com - I had a two week trip in Thailand but they have lots of destinations

I've enjoyed going on holiday on my own. It's a great way to go wherever you want (or can afford) without worying about anyone else, and a great way of meeting new people.

If it's at Christmas then the French Alps is superb for singles. Chamonix is great with terrific apres ski.

to true.....winter has to be spent in the Alps.....you'd be surprised how lively it is A

I'm not very confident on skis....
geekygirl

We met some nice people in our ski lessons last year, and we had a guy stay in the chalet we were in who was on his own and seemed to have a good time. And I'd be happy just to sit in various locations reading books, next to a roaring fire with lovely snowy landscapes outside to look at, and apres-ski in the evening!

And if you wait til early next year then I can come too!
Hornblower

Sorry to barge in (I did knock, but nobody answered).

Could we synchronise calendar's here? I'm coming too... (Oh, and can I bring my wife?)

So much for solo holidays eh?

So what? We'll have a great time - YAY!!!

I'd rather go with people if I can obviously, it's just because Ed is away through December.

I can show you some wicked drinking games on skis. They're good for beginners as they minimise the pain of the falls
A

Eeeek....

Did I mention I prefer cities? Really old ones? With no falling and breaking your legs?
greenfairy

I'll have to take you to Amsterdam sometime then A

sticky blue

Well I'm off to Budapest tomorrow for 6 days - nearly tomorrow now -

You lucky thing.

That's on my wishlist.

Spoke to Ed last night, and we may go for a long weekend in the New Year before term starts instead, found weekends to Rome etc for about £120 for flights and hotel on Expedia.
Hornblower

As you ask - I'm in the process of arranging a 30th birthday surprise for the present Mrs Thorn.

A weekend in Krakow (Dec 16th)

Anyone been? In particular, at that time of the year? I hear there are great markets that she can look round whilst I'm in the bar.

Thoughtful as ever!
It is cold, daughter went that time of the year. It isn't a wet horrible grey cold... nice fresh and crisp cold. The beer is colder so you'll be fine
Hornblower

Thanks Deli - helpful as ever!

Do you patrol these corridors on a 24 hour basis looking for needful souls to help with your never-ending supply of advice?

Just wondered...
Hornblower

I was saving that peck on the cheek for Dan - but he seems to be ignoring me.

Some things never change!!!

Patrol the corridors... no. I march smartly up and down them in a smart soldier like fashion with a full pace of 30 inches, neck in the back of the collar and arms swung in line with the shoulders whistling ALOTOW. Of course, I do allow myself to have the odd kink in the elbow whilst everyone is in their grot!
greenfairy

Kinky elbows? Whatever next

Never in public though!
greenfairy

I should hope not. There'd be panic in the streets!

They were only crocodile tears..... Sorry to disappoint you, Aaron...
Aaron Aardvark

I can only muster disappointment when I am excited about something in the first place. Being rude to you comes naturally and hence is not an event. Therefore if it goes tits up disappointment is not really an issue. See? Now then......must dash.......the dry cleaners is open on a Sunday and I must go and collect my cerries tunic. .
