Weekend bandcamp 23-25 May '08

OK chaps, by popular demand I'll try and sort this weekend away. I'll nominate a (local) volunteer to help me once we've decided where we're going. Vote for where you'd like to go, but please do not automatically vote for your hometown. You can, but this is supposed to be a weekend away.
The plan is for tents, which will keep the cost around £30 for two people for two nights.
We could also investigate short-term MQ renting, but not sure about the costs. Spare beds at mates' houses will probably spread us out too much, unless someone owns a mansion. Hotels will probably be too pricey, and guesthouses will be impractible unless we all promise to be really quiet in the small hours!
If you have any other thoughts or ideas, PM me.
greenfairy

My vote is for Yeovilton and isn't there a campsite by the Halfway House pub that could be a useful idea???

There was a camp site there - but I think it was just for vans & the odd tent with no amenities??

Bye the way, I don't have any camping stuff - only a slug and a thermal mug.
bassdrumal

You mean you will need more than that Grom??

Aww i wouldnt worry, I am sure there are enough of us with tents and stuff to accomodate you....and if not????  Put rum in the mug!  Job Done

I have a large 2-3 sleeper tent, so if there are any ladies needing accomodation, I'll look after you.
Any blokes can Knob-Off!
greenfairy

But I thought you enjoyed Al's manly hugs?
Anne Picc

Dolly and I can't make it unfortunately - it's the weekend of Dean and Siran's wedding.

Have fun
Axl

greenfairy wrote:

It was wrong, despite him being in his nurse's outfit. And anyway, we were in a different postcode, so it didn't count.
greenfairy

Excuses excuses
The Donkey

I've put Yeovil as it seems to be popular and about middlish, but I really don't mind.

I'm happy to go where ever. Asuming the boss grants permission that is!

Thanks for organising us Axl. God knows we need it!!!
bassdrumal

Reckon you are right Donkey.

Anyone else still suffering from Koln Blues?
greenfairy

I've not had a chance to get Koln Blues (someone really needs to compose a piece called that!) - life's been too crazy since we got back. Will probably get a delayed reaction in the next couple of weeks I'm sure.....
Sarah_Seahawk

I never get Koln blues - there is always a part of me marching on to Domstaedter and marching off to Heidewotsit... CHING! BOOM!
Big Ted

Cologne Blues

Woke up in the morning
and I had Cologne Blues
Need another Kolch
and fancy dress too!!!

Ching Boom's in my brain

We could do Ted, but I reckon it will be a whole lot quieter.  Hey thinking about it, I have nearly a month off very soon, lets all go over and see the real Koln.........................Nah Sod it, wont be nearly as much fun!  I mean, would playing a comedy horn whilst playing Swing Mach outside the Dom really be funny in the "real  world"???
Big Ted

Ummm.........................Yes!!!!

Along with "Hearts of Oak" up a side street from a Chinese restaurant, which I thought was our best bit!!

As the kennel has gone (so we can't do the world record thing, Dolly) lets see how many we can fit in Axl's tent!?
Apricot

I just voted Yeovilton cos GF told me it's next to the pub!
I'm up for the camp as long as I'm around then (oh and as long as it has facilities )
The Donkey

Facilities?

Wot a ditch isn't good enough for you?

Just how dirty can you get in one weekend?

Actually, don't answer that one...........
ZedHorn

just don't burn yourselves..... i'm working that weekend at the south west regional burns unit and an en masse trauma visit is NOT an option!!!!
bassdrumal

Where where where?  We could all come and visit you for tea and stickies (with Gummy Bear toppings)
Chrissie B

Can I come? I'm 100% Burns!

ZedHorn

teehee very good Chrissie...

ok I won't!
Wee Mac McDrums

Woot woot , I luv camping I do!!!!!!

Join my "tent-share" scheme....

book early to avoid disappointment

(only "real" ladies need apply)

See ya all there :)
greenfairy

So that's Axl and Mac sharing then....

I need to go tent shopping.
Axl

Maybe, but not with each other!
Apricot

so Axl how long does the voting last?
greenfairy

More importantly, why can't life just be one big band camp?
Axl

Apricot wrote:

For who's sharing my tent? No voting, just first come first served.
Oh, you mean the poll. I think I put it on for 4 weeks, so it should finish in a week or so. Looks like Yeovil-area is going to win though, unless there's a late flurry from somewhere else.
Apricot

greenfairy

I'm jealous now, I thought I'd be sharing your tent Apricot
Axl

Ladies, ladies. You can BOTH share my tent.
greenfairy

I won't have to pack a pillow in that case
Apricot

course you are fairy
but there's nothing to stop us going visiting!!
Gromit

Axl wrote:

Pick me, pick me !  Only because I don't have any camping equipment - of course.
Axl

Right, before this degenerates into some kind of catfight, let's pull the cotters, unship the shims, and get this bandcamp underway.
We will be going to Yeovil area, give-or-take a dozen miles.
First things first. (Obviously, else they wouldn't be first things. However, I digress.) Post a reply here if you're intending on coming, and whether you're bringing a car and/or tent, and what size tent, (as bigger ones cost more,) or sharing with someone else. Feel free to invite guests/other halfs along too, but this is a bandcamp weekend, and they will be mixing with the likes of us, so use your best judgement! If there is anyone else who isn't on the forum who wants to come, just do the same on their behalf.
Secondly, the intention was to stay for friday and saturday nights. Some people might not be able to make the friday due to work or travel, and monday is a bank holiday, so there is also the option of sunday night. If you want to do anything different from the standard two nights, include that in your reply.
Lastly, I would like a volunteer, who lives in the area, to give me a hand. I'll do all the checking out on-line, but there will be a few things that will need to be done there.
Axl

I'm coming, one car, one 3-sleeper tent (to myself).
Staying friday, saturday and sunday nights.
greenfairy

I'm coming! Hopefully for as long as possible but it'll depend on work. No car and no tent though....Axl, fancy detouring to Pompey and giving me a lift?!
Axl

It's all gone quiet on this bit.
Is nobody else coming to bandcamp? Is it going to be just me and the girls then?
Oh, I'm going to hate that!

There is still time to get your name down!
Gromit

I am in the process of making a poster for Heron Band Room as only the Forum-ers seem to know about it ????

Bye the way - I need some cyber sympathy as I dropped and smashed my Gromit mug this morning

AND the boys in the office wont let me put Daniel Craig on the wall.
The Donkey

I will defo be coming Axl, I'm just sorting out the details with the boss!
Chrissie B

Soppygit & I will be there. One car, one two-person tent, three nights
ZedHorn

i'm working as i already said - boo hoo!!!
Anne Picc

As said before, we can't make it either - it is the weekend of Siran & Dean's wedding.  Looking forward to some piccies though
Wee Mac McDrums

Ermmmm,

I'll be there,

9 man tent ( to my self)

Big big snuggly warm double sleeping bag ( to my self)

(did I mention the warmth and snuggliness?)

Fully heated tent with promises of breakfast in the morning (as long as the cooker hasn't ate all the gas!!!!)

Oh, can any one play the guitar?????????

should I bring mine?
Wee Mac McDrums

Oh, as for nights...

how long can ya party for !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS Axl can I have a lift??????
greenfairy

You may have a snuggly sleeping bag but I have my squishy which wins on the most comfortable camping accessory. And I have Apricot who is nearly as fabulous to cuddle
Axl

Wee Mac McDrums wrote:

Of course, but remember I drive a Mini, and I've got to get my stuff in it too!

Speaking of (or more accurately, typing about) lifts, is there anyone coming from Pompey who can give GF and Apricot a hand getting themselves and/or their stuff across? They're on about getting the train, so if you've only got space for an extra bag or tent, I'm sure they'd appreciate it.
Apricot

yes we would!  Also we interested a non-forumer volly dolly in camp last night, she was even more interested when she learnt the intention was more towards drinking than playing.
Will message you Axl if she decides to come along :-)
Apricot

just realised I didn't say on here...
I'm coming one 2-person tent, no car, staying as long as trains allow!

Mac, I've changed my mind. You can't have a lift. (Nothing personal!   )
Gromit

I have found a very nice camp site - £12 per night.  PM me for details as I don't want to post on a public forum  (Bob Spiller did a gig there and says it's a bit of a bugger to find but very nice).  It's got laundry, shop, bar, PLAY AREA, club house.......

I'll come and get you Mac, it's only 5 hours each way.
Axl

Right, here's the latest dit.
The campsite has been provisionally booked. The prices are £12 per night per tent, which includes up to 2 people and one car. Mac, your tent is more, but that's 'cos it's mahusive. I suspect we'll all be using it as the comunal tent, so we'll all chip in a couple of quid extra.
The deposits of £10 per tent will be paid by me. Don't worry about sending me a cheque, I'm a rich submariner. Just pay me back on the day. Those of you who have said you are definitely coming will owe me your tenner, even if you change your minds.
There is probably still room for more, but because it's a bank holiday weekend it may fill up soon, so let me know as soon as possible.
Axl

Further to my last, Gromit has just been down there and booked all the remaining spaces. They're now full and there's only room for three more tents, other than the ones who have confirmed with me. Get your bids in quick or dip out. If you don't have a tent, speak to a serving bandie and ask them to borrow one from the R&IT store for you, but make sure it's a 2 (or 3 max) sleeper, or you won't be able to fit on the site, as space is really limited.
Gromit

Directions for camp site:

If you follow Multi-map etc then there is a good chance you will get lost.  For security reasons, PM me and I will send directions for the last 2 miles.
Princess Fiona

I'm coming to band camp.  Woohoo

Wee Mac McDrums

If I have enough beer...

I'll come on everyones cars!..

And tents!!!!!!!

You have been warned!!!!!!

And if you come to the par-teee tent you will be warmed!!!!!

(bring your own snorkers and raw pig cutlets!)
Wee Mac McDrums

On an (almost) serious note,

There's a BIG beach 15 miles from the campsite,

I have a fast fun landyacht,

might be able to squeese it in to  Axl's parcel shelf!

If your interested in tearing up and down a beach at 50 mph let me know so as I can pack the buggy!!!!!

Guitar....buggy....guitar... buggy.......

bugger it!  you choose!!!!!!!!!!!!
greenfairy

I vote buggy....who on earth would want anything musical at a band camp?!
Princess Fiona

The buggy sounds great!!  gets my vote

Which beach are thinking of?

It's what you'll "drive in"to whilst your watching it that worries me....
greenfairy

As long as it's not a back alley he'll be fine.....
Axl

There is still room for one more tent on bandcamp. The first person to not say "um, ah, I'm not sure" and to say "by crikey, yes please" gets it. And they can have the last space too. (And not a trout in sight either!)
Axl

3 weeks to go!
Princess Fiona

Will anybody be taking an air bed pump I could borrow please?

I have got the lungs for it but makes me a bit dizzy!!!
Axl

But PF, you have a magnificent pair of lungs.
Sorry, no pump here.
btw
240V mains electric is sorted, so if anyone can bring a fridge...
ZedHorn

Axl.. small chance I may make it down for the sunday night / monday morning shananigans.... have sort of sorted a tent share out but do i need to do anything else?  cross you palm with silver, bring civilisation supplies to the happy campers after 48 hours of mongdom??   Z x
Axl

Just bring you and your stuff. Anything else will be a happy bonus. Good to have you on board.
Princess Fiona

Why thank you.  Guess I'll have to resort to blowing all weekend.
Axl

I would expect nothing less. (Instruments are banned, by the way!)
greenfairy

I might have to commandeer someone to take me to a certain pub near Enmore......Bridgewater way.....because you can get a great view of a nice barn conversion there (there's more to it than that but you'll have to ask me!)
ZedHorn

congratulations to Mr Speight who has ONLY just worked out that band camp falls on a bank holiday weekend, so he doesn't have to go home on Sunday...

teehee.. sorry mate!!!
Chrissie B

Princess Fi - I'm sure Soppygit will let you have a go on his airbed pump (oo er)!

No, really, we will be bringing one with us so you can use it too!
Princess Fiona

Thank you.
