Well done guys!

Great result at the festival - well deserved! At least here at Drake we can glow in the knowledge that some silverware at least past through Devon
Bobw

Many thanks, Anne. To be honest we were quite surprised ourselves, rehearsals haven't gone all that brilliantly recently.
Good to see everyone again.
Please give Emma a sloppy kiss from me. I thought her solo in the concert was excellent.
Also, I saw Dolly's drum static for Heron. Small but perfect! I don't know anything about drumming but the two of them sounded spot-on together to me.
Now, where is that list for Cologne?
Cheers
Gromit

Ditto! You guys rocked - literally:

Anne Picc

Does it have to be a sloppy one?! Dolly and Dave did a fab job, both for us and Heron - I know I'm biased but to stand in as the only drummers with 2 days notice AND to do a static at the last minute was fantastic! As for the Cologne list, Dolly and I will be there whether we are banding or not - we'd make fab groupies!
Anne Picc

Great phot Gromit. So nice to see Dave's labotomy scar healing so well
bassdrumal

Thanks for the photo Grommit ! Thanks goodness you never saw the ones later ! I was tired, thats why i looked shabby, it was a long day - my excuse and im sticking to it ! So there. To the Seahawk Gang.......Thanks for a fab weekend and making me welcome as the new boy !
Bobw

Boy???? Shitehawk will make a man of you! (See Sarah for details).
You are most welcome, Alex. You did a great job and, just think, only a few weeks ago you were a mere cymbal player! And a few weeks before that musically you were a complete non-entity! Then you were Seahawked.......

PS I forgive you for laughing at my wig!
EMMA

Hiya Guys

Guess I had better congratulate the winners........... you do realise that since I left I haven't won a bloomin thing!!!!

Oh heck, I think I shall be avoiding Anne and Dolly at band then if they are going to snog me - for goodness sake you could at least have asked someone tall dark and handsome Bob!!! Oh hang on......... is there anyone.......... , but thanks for the thought anyway for that it was very much appreciated!!!

Well done to Stu (again) - the man who taught me how to march and people always comment on my slow marching at Drake - thats because I was so scared of doing it wrong and being shouted at that first time!

Lovely to meet the new guys in the band...... little word of advice Alex, if you want to continue looking good, ask for a transfer at work and come and join Drake!! Once you are Seahawked thats it - I am warning you!!! Oh and how come in one of my photos I have a "loser"L on my forehead that looks very much like your hand???? See they are training you well!!! Panic not next year I will get my own back and the "L"'s will be on you !!!

Nah they are an ok bunch of guys and girls really, do miss you all, well the trophies anyway thanks again to Trev and Ginge for being there and being you!!! (Heard that one before guys haven't you!!)

well done Seahawk... AND Collingwood... biased.. well maybe just a wee bit!!!
bassdrumal

L hand on forehead

As a medic i can firmly say - its a medical condition, you can only cure it by holding a hand in a certain way on the affected head! On course, it does mean loser too, but would i be so bold as to call you one? I mean you did win something .............didnt you??? Oh, no my mistake, that was us too !!

I think you probably would be so bold to call me that - cheek!!!
No I didn't win anything, well nearly at bowling on Friday evening, does that count???? All explained in your pm!!!
EMMA

Oh and Bob, I didn't get my kiss from Anne or Dolly as Dolly got a bit upset with my not calling him tall, dark and handsome, I don't think he's going to forget it in a hurry either................ whoops!
Anne Picc

All in jest Emma. He'll get over the short blonde and ugly comment soon enough

I said no such thing!!! Some people will say anything to get me into trouble....... mind you I seem to do that by myself
bassdrumal

How the heck did i miss out on all this kissing nonsense?
Damned my dancing shoes, should have spent more time watching the room!!
Anne Picc

prentice40uk

Has dolly had anyone hassle you yet for a date? I told him it's only a matter of time, 'cause you were looking hot chick!!
ZedHorn

hands off my best mate Prentice... go read some fairy stories and update your classic film character knowledge....

good to see you again bud!

Zed
prentice40uk

sorry Zed i'll keep my hands off, you looked quite cute as alice in wonderland, oh no, it was erhhm, dorothy thats right!! hence the little teddy thing!
ZedHorn

It was A DOG!!!!!!!
prentice40uk

so it was but it looked a bit wragged! was used as a comfy thingy when you were a young nipper, if i remember correctly its ears were all chewed!
ZedHorn

I bought it from a charity shop in pompey in between my marching display and concert on Saturday - Anne forgot Toto mark one (a la Ypres) so had to get in emergency Toto.... he rocked - actually by teh end of teh night he flew.. much to Bob Eves and Mandy's amusement!!!
prentice40uk

Roger dodger, are you at work now? If so are you chatting to me whilst sewing up someones new nose? 'cause you women are good at that multi tasking thing aren't you!
ZedHorn

nope i have a day off so am watching daytime TV, playing on my 'puter and waiting fro a plumber to fix my shower!! are you multitasking organising nextyear's marching aplit, grunting fest and dodgy wigs???
prentice40uk

you're a card! Loose women is on later if you like that! I'm busy watching the Golf open on tv, but i'm now off for lunchtime circuits so i'll catch you some other time mate,

The Donkey

Ah, the busy life of the bandy and the good doctor....
bassdrumal

Hey hey hey
Who stole my kiss?
ZedHorn

I could be persuaded...
Anne Picc

Hi Dave. No date offers as yet, but then being all loved up and more than happy I wouldn't notice anyway lol. I don't think Dolly has anything to worry about. Oh unless being wolf whistled at this lunch time by two belching, rotund, middle aged men driving a stinking bin lorry counts. I was tempted ..............

Thanks for the compliments
ZedHorn

mmmmm...... bin men!!!!
prentice40uk

I can just picture the two men you are on about! how nice! as Zed says they are supposed to be quite dirty!!
ZedHorn

I would never call you and BobW dirty!!!!
Anne Picc

Not quite my idea of 'dirty' though
Anne Picc

Oops - I was still on about bin men
prentice40uk

me and bob could be dirty if we wanted!

Thanks very much indeed, you'll add to the sound nicely (most of our cornets are away!!) nice easy concert for you. Ginge has just told me you are only doing the first half, triffic! thanks for your help at the last minute.
EMMA

Yep that is indeed true, happy to help Dave!! I'll try not to let you all down!!! Not sure about being shouted at by Stu on the march after 4 years of being away but I am sure I will cope!!!

See you Saturday x

Anne Picc

I'm telling on you tonight!

Some people will do anything to get close to a bit of silverware
EMMA

Anne, you snitcher!!!

Looking forward to it though - mind having a loser in the ranks will be an experience for them moreso than me!!!!

Blimey what if they ignore me???? I'll have to sit on the beach by myself
Anne Picc

Playing like you did, no one could ever accuse you of being a loser Emma. We are just trophy compromised
EMMA

Thank you Anne, very much appreciated, as were all the other comments about how well I did - however Bob no-one at Drake has kissed me yet

I did my best at the end of the day and thats all I could do!!!
Anne Picc

Pucker up my dear - out with out my man tonight. Who knows where desperation will lead me ..............
EMMA

Not with that chipped tooth you weren't!!!
EMMA

Ohhhhhhhh better go and shine those shoes, can't let the winning marching band down!!!

See you all tomorrow, will be well weird coming back!!!!

xx
ZedHorn

best practice your grunting too...
shiny tooter and shoes; check
rig and lid; check
passport; check
cone - pick up at the border...
grunting voice; as above!!!
Anne Picc

Told you all this eating lark was no good - one bite of ward room provided cheese sandwich (not specified on the diet!) and my tooth goes. One of my front ones too so not looking as hot these days Dave!. More to the point, I swallowed it, so no luck with the tooth fairies either. And for those of you who know me well enough to know of my rather severe dental phobia, you'll know this is a BIG DEAL. Wasn't even a nice cheese sandwich. And now Emma won't let me snog her. Not a happy bear. Hugs needed. Or rum - which ever comes first.

Sounds Spicy

Oh - were you talking about snogging Emma?! I jest only my dear - sorry to ruin any daydreams

Anne I wish you would stop right there about this snogging you business, people will soooooooooooo get the wrong idea!!!!! How is the chipped tooth today???

Bob you are fantastic..... are you there tomorrow???? I won't tell Gillian! Oh of course the queue will be long giving me the smooches required in way of thanks for helping you out, just to prepare you for the wait thats all!!
Bobw

I will be doing the parade in the morning, am playing with Gweek Band in the afternoon, so will miss the beat retreat, and it's my sisters 50th birthday party in the evening, so I will not be doing the concert either.
I think Dave has over committed us a bit over this period!! Next weekend we have a carnival on the Sat evening and a beat retreat on the Sun morning!
Oh and we have a wings parade on Tues morning!!! Plus a lot of us have other commitments, work, holiday, etc so I don't think many of our gigs are going to be up to the standard we were in Portsmouth (Shhhh. They will want the trophies back!)
As for the snogging queue, as it was me asking Anne to give you a sloppy kiss that started all this in the first place, I think I should be at the front (maybe slipping around to join the back again afterwards)
EMMA

Oh Bob - thats a classic!!!! To be honest Bob I think you may actually be the only one in the queue anyway.............

Lucky for us that we had a quiet weekend then isn't it!! Meant to have had divisions on base tomorrow but we did that a few weeks ago, so don't have to do it again.

I'm like someone working in Asda - "Here to help"!!!!
Bobw

Oh! I forgot, we also have Air Day on 1st Aug and a graduation parade for the School of Flight Deck Ops on 3rd Aug! So if you are feeling bored you can come down and help (polish the trophies to put on display on Air Day)
We also have a RM band coming down, assume it is Plymouth Band. I expect they will be headhunting or picking up tips!!!!
ZedHorn

It's like Ypres all over again all this talk of Anne snogging her mates.. the firemen never did believe we were happily hetero... especially when they found out her other half is called Dolly!!!!! WWAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....

busy gig timetable guys.. yikes... if it were weekends I'd pop down myself but unfortunately work gets in the way far too much of this banding caper!!!
EMMA

Oh that was funny Zed - I remember it well - doesn't take much to confuse many firemen though - but weren't some of them stunning! Especially those Cornwall lads

Sorry Bob I can't do Air Day - I am working else I may have come down with my dad for the day as he's always wanted to go and nice to spend some dad/daughter time
EMMA

RM Band????? Who are they???????? Oh the white helmet lot!!!! Bless em!!!

Throw a sicky, Zed. Surely you must know some dodgy doctor who would give you a certificate for a bad case of horn-players thumb or something. Then again you are a doctor - sign yourself off!

I assume this statement is meant as a bit of friendly banter but in the current climate of endless drivel postings by VD's that are swamping this RMB site, may I suggest that you and others posting in this manner consider the way things are percieved by some members? Cheers
Anne Picc

Sorry Mr Jpig - I don't understand. This part of the forum is intended for Vollunteers. Presumably those members of the RMBs, or ex members, who object to us or don't know us well enough to interprete comments like that in the manner they are intended wouldn't be looking here anyway. Knowing Emma and the Volunteer movement well, I can assure you the comment was meant entirely in jest as anyone who had spent time with us would realise. I can understand why some people feel the RMB part of this forum is being 'invaded' by us Vollies (although looking at some of the RM posts there, I'm not sure there is much difference in quality at times!) but surely if this is a problem it is one to be addressed by Admin. Having given huge quantities of my spare time over 12+ years to representing the Royal Navy as a vollunteer, I can assure you and others that I have never met any Volly who holds the RM musicians in anything other than the esteem they professionally deserve (given the fact that as in any walk of life, not everyone is going to get on on a social level). Quite the opposite actually - many of us, myself included, dearly wish we had thaken the chance, given the opportunity, or indeed been talented enough to join up. This isn't meant to be in an annoyed or cheeky tone by the way (hard to get that over in a text) - just my opinion
Anne Picc

Oh, bye the way, Mr Jpig - I've just seen your website - say hi to the north of Scotland from me! Black Isle girl myself, but not been home for AGES!
Quasijock

Anne Picc wrote:

and I thought you were a Geordie!!!!!
Anne Picc

I keep forgetting there are people on heer that know me very well! I'm a Geordie by birth, but a Scottish lass by up bringing
MrJpig

Anne. Thank You for your reply and I quite agree that it is not easy to express the difference between a leg pull and a caustic remark other than maybe using an emoticon

I am also aware of the dedication that people like yourself have and the effort applied to keeping military music alive. (See current footnote).

Regarding the invasion problem, Admin owns the site and can pull the pin on any of us at the click of a mouse. He probably doesn't wish to get involved in these matters in order to remain impartial.

There are several Moderators on the forum who are responsible for keeping an eye on things. This includes having to pop into the VB sections now and then.

Believe me no one enjoys a good laugh and a bit of jovial banter more than me which I suspect, as I stated, was EMMA'S intention.

We all ....(well most) enjoy a good dram but think of the non forces members who view this site and paint a picture that all we do is party and get pi$$ed all the time (even at rehearsals).

Remember the top heading says Royal Marine Band and those not in the know will assume that everyone is in the same boat and therefore paint us all with the same brush.

To keep things right, The Caithness Site is not mine but I do feel it does an excellent job keeping people in touch with the county, particularly those like yourself who have moved from their homeland. Hence I include it in my profile.

Which part of the Black Isle are you from by the way?
Anne Picc

Mmm - you've raised some interesting points I hadn't considered. PM sent as I think this thread is well and truely hyjacked
admin

MrJpig wrote:

Indeed, you are right. Membership can go up as well as down and it is just a mouse click. I try and remain impartial, take all points of view and step in when required although 'Caretaker' is the only one who is truely impartial and I sometimes ask him to look at things as an outsider and advise me on 'how he sees it' from the posts. Caretaker is looking at the recent posts at the moment and we have had a few chats about a way forward which we are currently investigating.
Mr JPig has made some valid points about the way 'we' are seen by outsiders. By we, I mean all the members of the forum, bulgers, musns, serving, exserving, vollies and civvies alike. Certain things are accepted by us all (the music) but other activities are seen/percieved to be non acceptable and I'm NOT having a dig at anyone or anything in particular here. We all work hard and like to play hard and we all deserve to be able to do that. Banter is what this forum is about for the serving and ex serving guys... we know banter and are able to recognise banter as we all know each other / have served with each other or know someone who knows someone who knows us.
The mods do a great job here, with my full support, and I for one am grateful that once in a while I can leave them to it and have some down time leaving them to act, with my authority, in my absence to ensure the the smooth running of the forum and the forum's continued to growth and development.
Thread hijacking and tangenting is all part of the beauty of this forum, in particular, and we tend to leave it alone and let the threads take their own direction.
What I intend to do (having just spoken to caretaker) is create some new subranks that people will be asked to use that appear under their name...
Serving
Exserving
Volunteer
Civilian
RMB Fan

That way, we will be able to distinguish who everyone is.

Do you really think I would have said it, if I meant it any other way - I am not that heartless thanks!!

Oh and thanks to Dave and the rest of the Seahawk gang for making me so welcome and for a fab day yesterday, it was lovely to come back and play with the winning band!!!! Mind you I am not sure that blip on the end of the marching display in the morning was meant to happen in the winning VB Marching Band - surely????

Thanks Alex for getting me there and home again all safe and sound and stop going on about those lions - I am truly scared of them!!!

Yes I admit that Al - honesty being the best policy and all that, at least I wasn't counting the cars going up the A30 last night

Outstanding debt Paid

Kiss duly paid in full dave - you must have missed it
She went weak at the knees and everything - knew that extra garlicky sausage would come in handy

Em - it was the exciting conversation that drove me to counting cars, and of course wondering why that one in front kept moving towards the kerb! Now, www.trafalgarsquarelions might turn something up !

I tought this new site was supposed to stop you RM's moaning about us swamping your sites. I am sure that since the split there has been less drivel by us 'lowly vollies' as we have kept most of our drivel to this site
Anne Picc

The comment you quoted was written before the RM an Volly sites split. Its just that the slate wasn't wiped clean, so messages that existed on the sites when combined still appear in the new sites now.
