Does anyone know that whereabouts of Syd please?
I was a JREM1 being forwarded for the Upper Yardman Scheme when I put in for a transfer to the Buglers Branch of the Royal Marines, much to the displeasure of my D.O. & Sub D.O. I transferred successfully & I last saw Syd at Deal in 1979 or 1980.
He left to join the Diplomatic Corps & was posted to Jakarta & later to Washington DC. in the mid-1980s. I have not heard of him since that time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Gary Martin

I wasn't born when he was at Collingwood but I'll ask some of the current collingwoodites who might have been. Phil Stammers is probably old enough!! _________________ water... it's just a whixer for misky! |

I was at C'wood with Syd in 1979/80 when he left to take a post in Havana, Cuba. He was great mates with Maurice Keat who was the VBI at Daedalus at the same time, perhaps he still keeps in touch. Also, I think it was a VBI called Phil something or other (sorry can't remember his surname) that I was told lives in a Bothey in deepest darkest Scotland. After Phil there was Len Lewry that took over at C'wood so he might know (a long shot I think).
Anyway, thanks for the memories of Syd, a brilliant trumpet player and socialiser.... _________________ Rammit, I'm RDP |

Yeah, he even banned us from discussing the funniest movie of all time whilst in the Bandroom.... "the Life of Brian", and threatened to troop us if we did for disobedience. You'd never get away with it these days.
