Oh! I forgot, we also have Air Day on 1st Aug and a graduation parade for the School of Flight Deck Ops on 3rd Aug! So if you are feeling bored you can come down and help (polish the trophies to put on display on Air Day)
We also have a RM band coming down, assume it is Plymouth Band. I expect they will be headhunting or picking up tips!!!!

Oh that was funny Zed - I remember it well - doesn't take much to confuse many firemen though - but weren't some of them stunning! Especially those Cornwall lads

Sorry Bob I can't do Air Day - I am working else I may have come down with my dad for the day as he's always wanted to go and nice to spend some dad/daughter time

Throw a sicky, Zed. Surely you must know some dodgy doctor who would give you a certificate for a bad case of horn-players thumb or something. Then again you are a doctor - sign yourself off!

I assume this statement is meant as a bit of friendly banter but in the current climate of endless drivel postings by VD's that are swamping this RMB site, may I suggest that you and others posting in this manner consider the way things are percieved by some members? Cheers

Sorry Mr Jpig - I don't understand. This part of the forum is intended for Vollunteers. Presumably those members of the RMBs, or ex members, who object to us or don't know us well enough to interprete comments like that in the manner they are intended wouldn't be looking here anyway. Knowing Emma and the Volunteer movement well, I can assure you the comment was meant entirely in jest as anyone who had spent time with us would realise. I can understand why some people feel the RMB part of this forum is being 'invaded' by us Vollies (although looking at some of the RM posts there, I'm not sure there is much difference in quality at times!) but surely if this is a problem it is one to be addressed by Admin. Having given huge quantities of my spare time over 12+ years to representing the Royal Navy as a vollunteer, I can assure you and others that I have never met any Volly who holds the RM musicians in anything other than the esteem they professionally deserve (given the fact that as in any walk of life, not everyone is going to get on on a social level). Quite the opposite actually - many of us, myself included, dearly wish we had thaken the chance, given the opportunity, or indeed been talented enough to join up. This isn't meant to be in an annoyed or cheeky tone by the way (hard to get that over in a text) - just my opinion

Anne. Thank You for your reply and I quite agree that it is not easy to express the difference between a leg pull and a caustic remark other than maybe using an emoticon

I am also aware of the dedication that people like yourself have and the effort applied to keeping military music alive. (See current footnote).

Regarding the invasion problem, Admin owns the site and can pull the pin on any of us at the click of a mouse. He probably doesn't wish to get involved in these matters in order to remain impartial.

There are several Moderators on the forum who are responsible for keeping an eye on things. This includes having to pop into the VB sections now and then.

Believe me no one enjoys a good laugh and a bit of jovial banter more than me which I suspect, as I stated, was EMMA'S intention.

We all ....(well most) enjoy a good dram but think of the non forces members who view this site and paint a picture that all we do is party and get pi$$ed all the time (even at rehearsals).

Remember the top heading says Royal Marine Band and those not in the know will assume that everyone is in the same boat and therefore paint us all with the same brush.

To keep things right, The Caithness Site is not mine but I do feel it does an excellent job keeping people in touch with the county, particularly those like yourself who have moved from their homeland. Hence I include it in my profile.

Which part of the Black Isle are you from by the way?

Indeed, you are right. Membership can go up as well as down and it is just a mouse click. I try and remain impartial, take all points of view and step in when required although 'Caretaker' is the only one who is truely impartial and I sometimes ask him to look at things as an outsider and advise me on 'how he sees it' from the posts. Caretaker is looking at the recent posts at the moment and we have had a few chats about a way forward which we are currently investigating.
Mr JPig has made some valid points about the way 'we' are seen by outsiders. By we, I mean all the members of the forum, bulgers, musns, serving, exserving, vollies and civvies alike. Certain things are accepted by us all (the music) but other activities are seen/percieved to be non acceptable and I'm NOT having a dig at anyone or anything in particular here. We all work hard and like to play hard and we all deserve to be able to do that. Banter is what this forum is about for the serving and ex serving guys... we know banter and are able to recognise banter as we all know each other / have served with each other or know someone who knows someone who knows us.
The mods do a great job here, with my full support, and I for one am grateful that once in a while I can leave them to it and have some down time leaving them to act, with my authority, in my absence to ensure the the smooth running of the forum and the forum's continued to growth and development.
Thread hijacking and tangenting is all part of the beauty of this forum, in particular, and we tend to leave it alone and let the threads take their own direction.
What I intend to do (having just spoken to caretaker) is create some new subranks that people will be asked to use that appear under their name...
Serving
Exserving
Volunteer
Civilian
RMB Fan

That way, we will be able to distinguish who everyone is.

Do you really think I would have said it, if I meant it any other way - I am not that heartless thanks!!

Oh and thanks to Dave and the rest of the Seahawk gang for making me so welcome and for a fab day yesterday, it was lovely to come back and play with the winning band!!!! Mind you I am not sure that blip on the end of the marching display in the morning was meant to happen in the winning VB Marching Band - surely????

Thanks Alex for getting me there and home again all safe and sound and stop going on about those lions - I am truly scared of them!!!
