Just to say Hi to everyone

I have signed up to the forum with the hope of picking a few brains
and getting some advice

I am the mother of a Marine cadet based in 901 troop at winterton Norfolk

I am also a tutor for the band (brass) as well as a roped in (but secretly enjoying it player!!!!!)

I look forward to meeting to you all

thanks all seems a friendly site.

Zed u are probably right but if it keeps the ladies happy!!!!!!

I am sure you will all be a wealth of information

I guess our main hope is that if any of you see any old instruments going begging you will think of us! Despite being a RM Cadet band and looking the part we actually are affiliated to the RM band by nothing other than name. We receive no funding etc.

The sad thing is we have cadets wanting to learn instruments but nothing for them to play on. we are trying to get some kind of funding but as you know this all takes time and kids dont have much patience they soon get bored and want to leave. We rotate them on the kit we have but its not like them having an instrument they can take home to practice on etc.

so remember

if with your kit you are done send to 901!!

all donations gratefully received!!

Volly bands need kit themselves. We are in the same boat as you and do gigs to subsidise our band funds. We get the odd RM cast off but if we want a decent instrument individuals buy their own. Also Volly bands have only just managed to get new suits from the RN as we have been using second hand stuff from 'dressing up cupboards' for years.

'dressing up cupboards' yep - my Nos ones are someone else cast offs!

i'm afraid that Gromit is correct 901. Apart from the bloke at the front waiving his stick who is a paid RMBandy, and the odd bit of tuition for those nearer a full time RMB, we get not a lot from them either. Second hand - VERY second hand tooters from the stores which can be utterly unplayable! They are all still accountable for 25 years or so on inventories too!

That said, if anyone has a gluttony of cornets or tenor horns (yes please, get rid of the tenor horns!!) I'm sure we can send them your way!

Now come on zed you know you have heard a brilliant tenor horn player so stop knocking them all the time, having said that i agree we only get RM cast offs (quite a few years old) so a lot of us play our own instruments, or ones that brass bands loan us (I know I mentioned brass bands sorry zed)
