1. Dave Cole as a young Lt. had just finished conducting a piece he had written ( and was obviously very proud of ) in the bandroom at FOP.
George at this time was stood next to me ( prior to Corps of Drums rehearsals ) and in a loud voice said to Dave " WHO WROTE THAT". Dave replied " I DID GEORGE". George replied " WHAT A LOAD OF S**T, I HOPE YOUR NEXT PIECE IS BETTER". I will never forget the look on Dave's face to this day.

Dit No.2.] I made the mistake of allowing George to lead the Corps of Drums down the centre isle at a concert venue up North somewhere, when Seven Buglers mid way down the isle ended up marking time. This was due to George grinding to a halt and asking an old lady to his right if she was enjoying the concert!!!
God Bless you George. On the occasions he came across to FOP to make up the numbers for gigs from mount Wise where he was FOP's Bugler, he always managed to create havoc in the finest traditions of the branch.

Dave Kerr once told me a dit about George when he was the Mt Wise bugler.
The Admiral had arranged with George that George should meet him on the jetty at 0730 for a prompt departure with his visiting admiral. The Admirals bimbled down the jetty at about 0735 to see George chugging off in the Admirals' boat and waved at him to come back. Pointing to his watch he stood up and shouted back "You said to depart at 0730 prompt so I did. It ain't my fault you were late, I was here on time" and carried on for his day fishing alone...
